Anchor Block

Anchor Block 

An anchor block is an encasement of penstock designed to restrain the pipe movement in all directions. The anchor block must be placed at all sharp horizontal and vertical bends since forces tend to move pipe out of alignment.

Use of Anchor Block:

Anchor blocks are  required to resist axial force in long straight sections.

Location of anchor blocks

a) At vertical or horizontal bends of penstock.

b) Immediately upstream of powerhouse.

c) At sections of penstock where the span exceeds 30m.
