Cement, Sand and Water For Plastering
The thin mortar covering which is applied on the surface of the wall and ceiling is called plastering. Plastering is done to remove the rough surface and sometimes to develop decorative effects.
For the calculation of quantity of materials for plastering following things should be considered.
Points to be Considered
1. Density of Cement = 1440 kg/ m3
2. Density of Sand = 1450 – 1500 kg/ m3
3. Density of Aggregate = 1450 – 1550 kg/ m3
4. Weight of Cement in 1 Bag = 50 KG
5. The volume of 1 Bag Cement in Cum = 0.03472 cubic meter
Calculation of quantity of material for 12 mm thick plaster of ratio 1:4 (1 Cement:4 Sand) in the wall for 1 Sqm.
The volume of mortar = Area × Thickness
= 1 × 0.012
= 0.012 cum
Adding 30% to fill up joints, uneven surface etc ,
Volume of Mortar = 0.012+0.0036
= 0.0156 Cum
This is wet volume (i.e volume of cement sand mortar after mixing water) so for dry volume we have to add 30-35% as bulkage of sand.
Increasing 35% for dry volume.
Total Dry Volume = 0.0156 + 0.0054
= 0.02106
= 0.021 Cum
Quantity of Cement = 0.021/(1+4) × 1 (1 Ratio of cement)
= 0.0042 Cum
In Kg = 0.0042 × 1440 (Density of cement = 1440 kg/m3)
= 6.048 Kg
In Bags = 0.12 bags
Quantity of Sand = 0.021/(1+4) × 4 (4 Ratio of sand)
= 0.0168Cum
Water Required = Cement quantity in Kg × 0.5(water cement ratio = 0.5)
= 6.048 × 0.5
= 3.024 Litres
This quantity is for 1 Sqm.
For 100 Sqm Plaster
Cerment = 100 × 6.048 = 604.8 Kg
= 12.096
= 12 bags
Sand = 100 × 0.0168
= 1.68 Cum
Water = 100 ×3.024
= 302.4 Litres
